And in a flash, they’re gone

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Sweet shell of delicate fragility,
So slyly do you hide the treasure underneath.
A gleaming cloud, so proud of its invisibility
Like fields of flowers amassed, or heather on the heath.

The lightest touch does break your secret
And reveals the secret treasure inside.
What but good to break, but not to bit?
My longing for your tenderness I cannot hide.

As to my tongue your essence imparts
A revivéd memory of long-lost love that has returned,
A feeling of joy, such as Cupid throws his darts,
And each year I renew my hope that my future love will not be spurned.

O Mallomars, such wonder, your elusive sensory delight each Fall
A time so brief, fleeting, but that much more cherished that you are not here the year all.

With apologies to W. Shakespeare

Red Bull tastes GOOD

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

I just had a Red Bull for the very first time. Completely unlike what I thought it would be. I had an image of some kind of viscous dark-colored, possibly coffee-ish tasting drink. Or something like one of those Atkins low-carb drinks. Something that might give me “energy” but would not be entirely pleasant to drink. I had the impression that they were not very good somehow, but people drank them because they got pepped up from them, so the assault on the taste buds was an acceptable trade-off. I’ve been meaning to try one of these energy drinks for a while now, because I had read a good article on staying awake and alert on long drives (and I drive round-trip from Boston to New York and back every Saturday) and this article had recommended an energy drink as opposed to just plain coffee or sugar-laden candy. It’s just that the idea of the taste was putting me off. But today I was getting lunch and I wasn’t really hungry and there was a cooler of Red Bull, just beckoning me. And I thought it was Time.

It’s actually like drinking liquid Smarties. And I adore Smarties.

I think I’m in love.
