Aisling
This song is an allegory. It might be the best cover of someone else’s song ever. It’s a crime that Christy Moore is not more well known in this country. His voice makes me cry every time I watch it.
And I’m paying for this Web site so I guess I can post whatever I want.

Wow! That was awesome! Is this part of a longer program?

Kriss, this was taken from the 1997 BBC documentary about Shane, “The Great Hunger.” There’s a somewhat crappy copy on google video but you can buy it too.

I can’t remember if there is more of Christy in it or not. You should watch it; it’s a good film except they make some factual errors about Shane, which are shameful for the BBC of all places to make. Easy stuff and they get it wrong. They need a fact-checker over there apparently.
Isn’t that the most beautiful cover? It’s probably sacrilegious for me to say it but I like this one a tiny bit better than Shane’s own version.
That docu ends with Ronnie Drew doing one of Shane’s songs a capella and it’s like the saddest thing you’ve ever heard. I don’t know if Ronnie ever recorded it anywhere else.

Thanks for the info. I’ve been stuck on Tuesday Morning for the last few weeks, but Christy cover of Aisling has replaced it. I’ll check and see if I can find “The Great Hunger” on Amazon to add to my collection.

No luck and Amazon. Lots of sites have the video, but the sounds seems to be off on most of them. It could be my connection at work, so I’ll try again at home. Do you have a source of where it can be purchased?
Thanks!

The copies posted streaming do seem to have the sound unsynched. It’s annoying. I think I got my DVD off ebay. I don’t think it’s an “official” release. I don’t see it on the BBC Web site either. There are torrents for it too, which I would not normally get because then the band doesn’t get any royalties, but if the DVD is not an official release then they’re not getting any royalties anyway. I don’t know how good the quality of those are. Based on file size, it looks like they’re the actual BBC program recorded to a computer, not ripped from a DVD.
(I have nothing against torrents and have probably a terabyte of media files gotten that way but I feel bad doing it with this particular group!)

P.S. I’m supposed to record a couple of demos pretty soon and after hearing this version, I think I’m going to cover Christy covering Shane. Maybe someday someone will cover me covering Christy covering Shane, yeah? XD

Thanks. I’ll try the torrents when I get home.
You’ll have to share the results of your cover with the rest of us! Will there be a video too?

Oh god I’d be too embarrassed. Esp. considering who hangs at that place. It’d be like copying Monet and showing it to him, or to his friends at least.
No video! If the audio comes out well I’ll be happy enough.
Have you seen this one of Christy and Shane doing Spancil Hill? Not great quality video again but it’s enough okay. Another sad one.

I hadn’t seen that one before either. Shane’s voice sounds really strong on this one. A great performance by both.

So I checked my DVD and I’m pretty sure it’s just a DVR bootleg, so the band is not missing out on royalties by just downloading it. I also have it from a good torrent so if you want the link let me know (I’ll email it, not post it). Or if you can’t download them, I’ll upload my copy to my file server. It’s an MPG file of about 500 MB.

The email route won’t work for me. But if you scan upload it to a server that would work great. I tried watching it tonite from a couple of different sites but all of them were out of synch. I didn’t even make it to any of the covers.
